How to view the archive

There is a comprehensive list of past shows in this section. This enables you to search past productions by year or title. An alphabetical listing can be used to search for production companies.

Chronicling over one hundred years of productions at the Palace Theatre, this has been compiled from material held in our Archive, supplemented by advertisements in the local newspapers (held on microfiche at Southend Central Library).

There are just over 6,000 shows on the list, which can be ordered by date or by title. However, if you are looking for a particular show the easiest way to do so is by using the ‘search’ box in the top right hand corner of the page.

If you are able to provide any additions, corrections or updates we’d love to hear from you. Or we can help if you are searching for a particular show.

Our physical Archive contains an extensive collection of memorabilia, including programmes, posters, press releases, photographs, scrapbooks and newspaper cuttings. However, while these have been scanned, they are not directly accessible via this website. To view any material, please contact our archivist.  And, if you are interested in specific shows, performers and/or production companies (for example) we will be pleased to see whether we can assist you.

If we do have material that is of interest, e-copies of most items can be provided. Alternatively, you are welcome to visit the Archive, located in the Palace Theatre, to view the material ‘first hand’.

Please note that, while enquiries will be dealt with free of charge, there may be a modest charge when providing material.

To provide updates to the list, make an enquiry, or arrange a visit the Archive, please contact our Archivist.
